Who is Amy Fisher?

American woman Amy Elizabeth Fisher was born in Merrick, New York State USA, on 21 August 1974, making Leo her zodiac sign. She’s probably only known for shooting and severely wounding her lover Joey Buttafuoco’s wife Mary Jo Buttafuoco when she was only 17; she pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated assault, and was sentenced to spend five to 15 years behind bars.

Joey’s 18 years Amy’s senior, and the magazines thus referred to Amy as ‘the Long Island Lolita’; she was paroled in 1999, and has since become a p*rnographic actress, webcam model and author.

Education and early life

Amy was raised in Merrick by her mother Roseann Fisher and father Elliot; not a lot has been disclosed about her family, as they prefer to stay away from media, but it’s known that her father was Jewish.

Amy studied at Kennedy High School, and was interested in a number of activities during her time there, as she tried to become a cheerleader, appeared in a couple of school plays, and played soccer. She was 16 when she kept her father company while he was taking his car to Joey Buttafuoco’s auto body shop; it was then that the two met, and engaged in sexual activities less than a month later.

Amy took her GED tests while in jail, and hasn’t attended college.

Imprisonment

Amy was obsessed with Joey, and became highly jealous of his wife Mary Jo.

She found help in auto supply salesman Peter Guagenti, who gave Amy a .25-caliber handgun and served as her getaway driver. She rang the bell on Buttafuocos’ doors, and when Mary Jo answered, Amy lied that Joey was having an affair with her younger sister; the two women talked for around 15 minutes, and Mary Jo eventually told Amy to leave and never come back. This was when Amy hit Mary Jo twice with the gun, and shot her in the head.

Mary Jo’s neighbors called the police, and the doctors performed surgery all night; the bullet wasn’t removed, but they were able to save her life. Joey told the police about Amy, and Mary Jo recognized her after she woke up the next day; Amy accepted the plea bargain on 23 September 1992.

Only a day or two later, the show “Hard Copy” played a conversation between gym owner Paul Makely and Amy, in which she spoke about her name being in all the newspapers, that the entire incident was to make her famous, and that she was going to buy a Ferrari when she’s released from prison.

Amy also filed a lawsuit against Joey, claiming that he had raped her when she was underage; Joey pleaded guilty in October 1993, and served four months behind bars.

After jail

Following her release, Amy began working for the news and lifestyle magazine “Long Island Press” as their columnist, and the year 2004 saw Robbie Woliver publish Amy’s biography “If I Knew Then…”; the book was a New York Times bestseller.

Amy’s husband Louis ‘Lou’ Bellera sold their sex tape to the film studio Red Light District Video in October 2007, and Amy sued them on 6 November 2007, citing copyright infringement. The two sides settled in January 2008, and Amy also reconciled with her husband; parts of the video were played on “The Howard Stern Show”.

Amy then launched her career as a p*rnographic actress, and her debut movie “Amy Fisher: Totally Nude & Exposed” was released on 12 January 2009; she signed a contract with Lee Entertainment and became a stripper, performing at night clubs once a month. Amy gave birth to their three children in the 2000s, but their divorce was finalized in 2015.

Who is Yolanda Saldívar?

Yolanda Saldívar is a former registered nurse, who became known for her involvement in the murder of the popular Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez in 1995.

Yolanda Saldívar Wiki: Age, Childhood, and Education

Yolanda Saldívar was born on 19 September 1960 in San Antonio, Texas, USA., one of eight children of Frank and Juanita Saldívar. Her father worked as a head waiter at a Mexican restaurant. She attended several elementary schools before graduating from McCollum High School in 1979. She faced bullying and teasing due to her weight and struggled to make friends, which led her to isolate herself from social activities.

She went on to study nursing at Texas A&M International University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1990. Saldívar adopted three children, including her niece, and worked as a registered nurse at several hospitals, including Medical Center Hospital and St. Luke’s Lutheran Hospital. She faced legal trouble over stolen money from her employers, and an unpaid student loan.

Introduction to Selena’s Music and Starting the Fan Club

Yolanda Saldívar first became interested in Selena’s music in the late 1980s, when introduced to it by a friend. Saldívar, who was of Mexican-American heritage and grew up in Texas, was immediately drawn to Selena’s unique style of Tejano music and her charismatic stage presence.

For Saldívar, Selena’s music represented a connection to her own cultural heritage and a source of inspiration. She approached Selena’s father, Abraham, and talked with him about starting a Selena fan club in San Antonio. He immediately approved of her idea, and she was made the club’s president.

Clothing Store Manager and Money Embezzlement Accusation

Yolanda’s involvement with Selena’s business increased. The fan club quickly rose from 1,000 to 5,000 members. When the two bonded over the success, Selena named her the manager of her two clothing boutiques in Corpus Christi and San Antonio. Saldívar was responsible for handling the day-to-day operations of the boutiques, including inventory management, sales and staffing.

However, people from the club started complaining about missed payments and receiving nothing from the club, and Selena’s father became suspicious of Yolanda’s management.

He learned that she was embezzling money, and in early 1995 Abraham, Selena, and her sister Suzette organized a meeting with Yolanda. During the meeting, they accused her of illegal actions, and Abraham fired Yolanda immediately, but Selena kept in contact with Yolanda as she had to give her financial documents.

The Murder of Selena

On 31 March 1995, Selena arranged to meet Yolanda Saldívar at a Days Inn hotel in Corpus Christi to collect financial records that Saldívar had been withholding. However, Saldívar claimed she’d been raped in Mexico, which caused a further delay. Selena drove Saldívar to a hospital, but doctors found no evidence of rape. Upon returning to the motel, Selena asked for the financial papers again, but Saldívar pulled a pistol from her purse and pointed it at Selena. The singer tried to run, but Saldívar shot her in the right shoulder, causing severe damage to an artery. Despite being critically injured, Selena ran towards the lobby seeking help, with Saldívar in pursuit, hurling insults. Selena ultimately died due to blood loss in hospital at 1:05 p.m., just 16 days before her 24th birthday.

Trial and Sentencing

Yolanda Saldívar’s trial for causing fatal shots to Selena, was a hot topic in Latino community in the United States. There was no televised broadcast of the trial, however, outside the courthouse, there were bunch of reporters and cameras. Saldívar’s defense team successfully argued for a change of venue to Houston, Texas, citing concerns about an unfair trial in Selena’s hometown. During the trial, the prosecution presented a police confession in which Saldívar admitted to shooting Selena during an argument over allegations of theft. Conversely, the defense presented testimony from Texas Ranger Robert Garza, who claimed that Saldívar stated the shooting was unintentional.

Despite the defense’s claims, the prosecution argued that Saldívar, who was trained as a nurse, failed to call for emergency assistance or provide any medical aid to Selena after she was shot. Moreover, evidence revealed that the pistol required considerable pressure on the trigger to fire, making it improbable that the shooting was accidental. The judge did not allow the jury to consider lesser charges, and they were instructed to either acquit or convict Saldívar of first-degree murder.

After a few hours of deliberation, the jury found Saldívar guilty of murder, and she received a life sentence in prison. She is currently incarcerated at the Mountain View Unit in Gatesville, Texas, where she is kept in isolation for 23 hours each day because of death threats from Selena’s fans. She can accept visits from friends and family for two hours a week, and she will become eligible for parole on 30th March 2025.

The gun used to kill Selena disappeared after the trial, and was eventually found by chance in a box of office supplies at the home of a court reporter named Sandra Oballe. Although some groups objected to its disposal, the gun was dismantled, and its parts were thrown into Corpus Christi Bay in 2002.

Saldívar has filed a petition with the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals challenging her conviction, claiming that it was filed in 2000 with the 214th District Court but was never sent to the higher court. Her request was received on 31 March 2008, which happened to be the 13th anniversary of Selena’s death; the petition was denied.

Films and TV Shows With Yolanda Saldívar

Yolanda Saldívar’s story has been featured in various forms of popular culture. In 1997, a biographical film entitled “Selena” was released, which chronicled the life and career of the late singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, and included Saldívar’s portrayal as the murderer. The film was well-received and helped bring Selena’s music and legacy to a wider audience.

Saldívar has also been the subject of several true crime documentaries and TV shows, including “Killer Women with Piers Morgan” and “Murder Made Me Famous”. In addition, she’s been referenced in various other works of popular culture, such as songs, TV shows, and books.

Who is Michael Franzese?

American motivational speaker, author and former convict Michael Franzese, was born in New York City USA, on 27 May 1951, making Gemini his zodiac sign. He’s probably known best for having served time for implementing a scheme to defraud the federal government of oil taxes in the first half of the ‘80s; since his release from prison in 1994, Michael’s been travelling around the US giving motivational speeches, and has also published seven books.

Education and early life

Michael was raised in New York City by his father John ‘Sonny’ Franzese who was an underboss of the Colombo crime family, and mother Cristina Capobianco-Franzese who was only 16 when she gave birth to Michael; he spent most of his early life believing that Frank Grillo was his father, and went by the name ‘Michael Grillo’. Cristina married Frank because it would’ve been a scandal if she gave birth out of wedlock, but after Sonny was allowed by the mafia to divorce his then-wife, he married Cristina and Frank disappeared.

Michael wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a mobster, but Sonny didn’t want that kind of life for him; Sonny was sentenced to spend 50 years behind bars for robbing a bank in 1967, and Michael dropped out of college in 1971 to provide for himself, his brother and their mother.

Life of crime

Michael met his father’s friends after he was incarcerated, including the boss of the Colombo crime family Joseph Anthony Colombo Sr, and became a made man (fully initiated mafia member) in 1975, under acting boss Thomas ‘Tom’ Dibella; Michael took the blood oath together with other recently initiated members John Minerva, Vito Guzzo Sr, Salvatore Miciotta, Joseph Peraino Jr. and Jimmy Angelino, all of whom but Salvatore died violent deaths in the following two decades.

He was mentored by Joseph ‘Joe-Joe’ Vitacco at the beginning of his ‘career’ in the mafia, and in 1980 became the capo in charge of more than 300 men.

Mafia member Lawrence Salvatore Iorizzo contacted Michael in 1981, claiming that he had a plan for defrauding the government out of gasoline taxes; Lawrence had problems in California, and offered Michael a percentage in the scheme if he was to help with his problems. The two men started 18 stock-bearer companies in Panama, and Michael then partnered up with New York City’s Russian mafia; officials later stated that Michael was making $1.25 million a month through the scheme, while his associate claimed that he was making $1 million a week. At the peak of his ‘career’, Michael was making $8 million a week, while the scheme defrauded the federal government of $250 million a year.

“Fortune Magazine” ranked Michael #18 on their 1986 list ’50 Wealthiest and Most Powerful Mafia Bosses”, while the magazine “Vanity Fair” referred to Michael as the second biggest mafia money earner, right behind Al Capone.

Michael was the owner of a number of legal businesses in the ‘70s and ‘80s, such as movie production companies, nightclubs, restaurants, car repair shops and dealerships; his film production company Miami Gold produced the popular 1986 action adventure movie “Knights of the City”.

Arrest and incarceration

Michael was arrested on various charges in 1985, but was acquitted of racketeering in April; he was indicted on 14 charges in New York City in 1986, and on 177 counts in Florida in the same year.

Iorizzo turned against Michael and other mafia members in March 1985, when put in the witness protection program. Michael pleaded guilty to two counts of tax and racketeering conspiracy on 21 March 1986, and was sentenced to pay $15 million and spend 10 years behind bars; he eventually entered a plea agreement, and his sentence was lowered to nine years, of which he served three years and seven months prior to being released on parole, but violated the parole and on 27 December 1991 was sentenced to spend four more years in prison.

During his time in jail, Michael was given a Bible by a guard and became a born-again Christian; he co-authored his autobiography “Quitting the Mob” in 1992.

Life after prison

Michael was released on 7 November 1994, and retired from the mob in the following year, and moved with his family from New York City to California, after receiving several death threats.

He’s since given motivational speeches all around the US, including in prisons and schools, while he also occasionally speaks at Christian churches and conferences.

Michael narrated the 2013 documentary movie “The Definitive Guide To The Mob”, and played a supporting character in the 2017 American Christian movie “Let There Be Light”.

He’s published six books since his 1992 autobiography, including the 2009 “The Good, the Bad and the Forgiven”, the 2014 “From the Godfather to God the Father”, and the 2022 “Mafia Democracy”.

Love life and marriages

Michael’s married twice, but not many details have been disclosed about his first wife Maria Franzese, while it’s known that they don’t have children together.

He married his second wife, American devout Christian Camille Garcia in 1985, a year after they met while shooting for the movie “Knights of the City”; they have seven children together. Michael’s revealed that it was Camille who convinced him to leave the mafia.

He hasn’t mentioned other women whom he’s perhaps dated, Michael’s married to his second wife Camille Garcia as of April 2023, and they have seven children together.
