POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, this position operates Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and load management systems, dispatches electric and water crews, coordinates transmission line switching, monitors electrical and security systems, operates equipment to bring electrical systems and generation on- and off-line, and completes operating logs and reports.

JOB DUTIES OR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Operates SCADA and load management system for transmission, substation, and distribution systems.
  • Monitors electrical systems.
  • Operates computers and software to bring electrical systems and generation on- and off-line.
  • Coordinates switching for transmission lines with power supplier.
  • Dispatches crews for emergency and non-emergency repair/service calls.
  • Receives and responds to after-hour customer inquiries.
  • Monitors and authorizes entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.
  • Completes operating logs and reports.
  • Performs metering data handling and calculations using various software programs.
  • Rotates shift work.
  • Complies with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Standards.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Education

Associate’s degree in an electrical-related field.

  • One (1) year of electrical experience.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the formal education, experience, and training preferred in order to exceptionally perform all of the functions of this position.

Training, Certificates, and Licenses

  • Training or experience with control systems software, such as SCADA.
  • Familiarity with electric schematics, such as one-line diagrams.
  • Experience operating high-voltage breakers in switchgear.
  • Experience with clearance procedures and training in switching procedures.

COMPLEXITY

While performing the normal duties of this job, processes, procedures, or software vary from one assignment to the next. Assignments are still related in function and objective.

RESPONSIBILITY

Supervision

General supervision is provided while performing the normal duties of this job.

This position exhibits no formal supervisory responsibilities but may coordinate work with other individuals as a team member.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, this position:

  • May occasionally climb, bend/stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, reach above shoulder level, stand, walk, run, push/pull up to 150 lbs., lift up to 75 lbs., carry up to
    50 lbs., and feel; frequently talk; and continuously sit, finger/enter data/keystroke, and hear.
  • Will use close vision, far vision, depth perception, visual acuteness, color vision, and peripheral vision.
  • Will use their right hand and left hand for fine handling or manipulation and will use their right and left feet.

Work Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, this position will experience exposure to inside environmental conditions.
