Position Overview

The Division of Development Disabilities is seeking to hire a Hearing & Speech Advanced Specialist for the Ludeman Developmental Center located in Park Forest, Illinois to plan and develop the audiology and speech/language program. Manages contractual Speech Pathology services; performs audiometric assessments and diagnostic evaluations; provides audiological and hearing aid services for individuals; participates as a member of the Interdisciplinary (ID) Teams. Provides in-service training to facility and community staff; participates as a member of facility committees; provides technical assistance to community agencies.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Plans and develops the audiology and speech/language program for Ludeman Developmental Center.
  2. Performs audiometric assessments and diagnostic evaluations.
  3. Performs hearing aid orientation classes or individual session for individuals in need.
  4. Obtains ear mold impressions for custom ear molds.
  5. Serves as a member of facility committees.
  6. Develops and conducts in-service and pre-service training for the Center and Community Agencies, on such topics as communication, hearing aids and their maintenance, and Telecommunication Devices for the Deaf usage.
  7. Attends and actively participates in training.
  8. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires possession of a master’s degree in speech-language pathology or audiology from an approved program.
  2. Requires a license to practice speech-language pathology or audiology from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (DFPR).
  3. Requires a valid, current Professional Educator License ((PEL) with endorsem*nt as a speech-language pathologist (either teaching or non-teaching) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
  4. Requires three (3) years of directly related clinical experience in an advanced clinical setting.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires the ability to physically restrain individuals as necessary to prevent injury to individual or others.
  2. Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.
  3. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  4. Requires the ability to travel, in performance of job duties.
  5. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  6. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Work Hours: Mon-Fri 8:00am – 4:30pm or 8:30am – 5:00pm
